Results of July 17 Distracted Driving Operation

(July 17, 2026) — The Cape Coral Police Department conducted a traffic saturation on July 17, 2026 to specifically targeting distracted driving. This operation was conducted citywide and resulted in 129 total citations. This operation was also conducted during our participation in the week-long Operation Southern Slowdown campaign, which is specifically focused on reducing traffic crashes and fatalities

***The operation was paid for with FDOT sub-grant funding. Cape Coral currently ranks 4th out of 38 agencies in Distracted Driving for traffic fatalities and serious injuries on the Highway Safety Matrix – Ranking of Florida. To improve traffic safety in the City, the Department has partnered with FDOT’s Traffic Safety Office to bring additional enforcement and education through the implementation of saturation patrols.
