21st Century Policing

The Cape Coral Police Department is committed to building relationships with our community to earn the trust and support of the people we serve and protect. We strive to build a safer city using community policing strategies, cutting-edge technology, and specialized training for law enforcement in the 21st Century.

Trust between law enforcement agencies and the people they protect and serve is essential in a democracy. It is key to the stability of our communities, the integrity of our criminal justice system, and the safe and effective delivery of policing services.

On December 18, 2014, President Barack Obama signed an executive order establishing the Task Force on 21st Century Policing. The President charged the task force with identifying best practices and offering recommendations on how these practices can promote effective crime reduction while building public trust. The recommendations from the Task Force on 21st Century Policing are organized around six main topic areas, or “pillars.”

SIX PILLARS OF 21ST CENTURY POLICING

  1. BUILDING TRUST AND LEGITIMACY
  2. POLICY AND OVERSIGHT
  3. TECHNOLOGY AND SOCIAL MEDIA
  4. COMMUNITY POLICING AND CRIME REDUCTION
  5. OFFICER TRAINING AND EDUCATION
  6. OFFICER SAFETY AND WELLNESS

The Cape Coral Police Department is dedicated to constantly improving and achieving each of these pillars to attain the highest level of safety for our community.
