HOUSE CLEANER ARRESTED FOR STEALING CLIENT’S JEWELRY

Cape Coral, FL (May 19, 2026) – The Cape Coral Police Department has arrested a man in connection with a jewelry theft investigation involving a residence in Southwest Cape Coral.

On March 30, 2026, officers responded to a report of a past theft at a home in Southwest Cape Coral. The victim reported several pieces of jewelry missing, including vintage gold diamond rings.  The victim had employed Donald Claybaugh (DOB 12/28/1966) as a house cleaner who accessed and cleaned her residence on a monthly basis for compensation. At the time of the initial report, the victim did not wish to pursue charges.

During the course of the investigation, the victim later located multiple pieces of the stolen jewelry at a local pawn shop and repurchased the items. The victim subsequently chose to move forward with charges.

Detectives confirmed that multiple pieces of jewelry had been pawned at a Cape Coral business. A review of pawn records revealed several transactions linked to Donald Claybaugh between 2025 and 2026.

On May 14, 2026, Donald Claybaugh was arrested and charged with:

  • Grand Theft (F.S.S. 812.014(2)(c)1)
  • Dealing in Stolen Property (6 counts) (F.S.S. 812.019(1))
