(July 9, 2025) — On Friday, July 4, 2025, at approximately 11:57 p.m., Cape Coral Police Department officers responded to a report of a vehicle burglary in progress near NE 20th Street in Cape Coral, Florida.
A citizen called police to report they saw two males checking door handles on vehicles. The citizen was able to give a vehicle description and partial tag to officers.
An officer was securing his perimeter spot at NE 23rd Street and NE 16th Place. The officer quickly observed a black Audi A4 matching the suspect vehicle description. A traffic stop was initiated in the 1800 block of NE 23rd Street and the vehicle fled from officers. Both occupants exited the vehicle and fled on foot in opposite directions.
With the assistance of the K9 unit, the driver, later identified as Xavier Ryan Scott (DOB 01/11/2006), was located and detained near the canal.
Mr. Scott did not possess a valid driver’s license, and the vehicle was unregistered with no owner information.
Xavier Scott was arrested and taken to the Lee County Jail on the following charges:
–1 count in violation of F.S.S. 810.02(4b), Burglary of an Unoccupied Conveyance, Unarmed
–1 count in violation of F.S.S. 316.1935(2), Flee and Elude Police with Lights and Sirens Active
–1 count in violation of F.S.S. 843.02, Resisting an Officer Without Violence
–1 count in violation of F.S.S. 320.02(1), Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle
–1 count in violation of F.S.S. 322.34(2a), Driving While License Suspended or Revoked with Knowledge
The passenger, Kody Maddox Ghrist (DOB 07/17/2006), was later apprehended with the assistance of K9 and UAV resources. He was arrested and transported to the Lee County Jail on the following charges:
–1 count in violation of F.S.S. 810.02(4b), Burglary of an Unoccupied Conveyance, Unarmed
–1 count in violation of F.S.S. 843.02, Resisting an Officer Without Violence
