Cape Coral, FL – On May 27, 2026, during the early morning hours, Cape Coral Police officers conducted a coordinated operation that resulted in the arrest of five individuals connected to multiple active criminal investigations across the city.
Officers initially responded to a neighborhood in Southwest Cape Coral following reports of a vehicle burglary in progress. This neighborhood has experienced a recent string of similar crimes. Utilizing a coordinated patrol response, K9 units, aerial support from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, and CCPD’s Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) team, officers were able to quickly locate, track, and safely apprehend multiple suspects who fled and attempted to conceal themselves in nearby residential properties.
During the search, officers located several suspects hiding in yards and within a screened lanai of an occupied residence. CCPD drone operators played a critical role by tracking suspects as they fled through open fields and into backyards, allowing officers to effectively contain and detain them without injury.
The individuals taken into custody include:
- Xavier Charles Derisma (DOB 12/03/2007)
- Jeramy Lee Thompson (DOB 10/15/2004)
- Three additional juveniles
The arrests are tied to multiple ongoing investigations involving stolen vehicles, burglaries, violations of pretrial release conditions, and other criminal offenses. Xavier Derisma was positively identified as the suspect who burglarized two vehicles during this investigation, as captured on a victim’s surveillance footage. The suspect stole cash and gift cards from the vehicle.
As part of the broader investigation, detectives also linked Derisma to a previously reported vehicle theft that occurred on May 23, 2026, in Cape Coral. In that case, the victim reported a 2020 black Chevrolet Trax stolen. The stolen vehicle was recovered on May 26 in a vacant lot after two individuals wearing dark clothing were observed abandoning it. Evidence was collected from the scene. Based on the totality of the investigation, including ankle monitor data and vehicle tracking data, probable cause was established to charge Derisma with Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle.
“This operation is a strong example of how our investments in technology, intelligence-led policing, and specialized resources are producing real-time results. Through the coordinated efforts of our patrol officers, drone operators, K9 units, and aviation partners, we were able to safely locate and apprehend multiple suspects connected to serious and ongoing criminal activity.
While Cape Coral remains one of the safest cities in Florida, this incident underscores the reality that criminal activity, often involving offenders crossing jurisdictional lines, continues to impact the region. The Cape Coral Police Department remains committed to proactive enforcement, strategic partnerships, and continued investment in advanced technology to address evolving public safety threats.” –Chief Anthony Sizemore
