CCPD to Hold Grant-Funded Distracted Driving Operations

(November 21, 2024) — The Cape Coral Police Department is set to hold multiple impaired driving operations for the rest of 2024 and 2025. Throughout the year, officers will be conducting high-visibility enforcement events, targeting dangerous driving behaviors such as texting, talking on the phone, and other distractions behind the wheel. These operations will take place at various locations and times, including peak hours, to maximize awareness and deter unsafe driving practices.

The distracted driving operations will focus on education and enforcement, with officers issuing citations to violators and educating the public on the dangers of distracted driving. The initiative is part of the department’s ongoing commitment to traffic safety and improving public awareness of safe driving habits. Our priority is to keep our roads safe and protect everyone traveling in our community. This funding will enable us to enhance our efforts to combat distracted driving and send a strong message to motorists: stay focused behind the wheel or face the consequences.

***The operation was paid for with FDOT sub-grant funding. Cape Coral currently ranks 4th out of 38 agencies in Distracted Driving for traffic fatalities and serious injuries on the Highway Safety Matrix – Ranking of Florida. To improve traffic safety in the City, the Department has partnered with FDOT’s Traffic Safety Office to bring additional enforcement and education through the implementation of saturation patrols.
