(September 17, 2024) — On September 16, 2024, at around 2 AM, officers with the Cape Coral Police Department responded to a rollover crash at the 2200 block of Del Prado Blvd S, Cape Coral, Florida.
Officers found a red Mercedes lying on its roof and heavily damaged. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Korey Dickens (01/22/1990), had minor lacerations. He was wearing a blue work shirt and black pants with no shoes or socks on.
A gray Nissan on scene was also damaged in the crash. The driver and passenger of that vehicle told officers they were leaving the BP gas station at 2231 Del Prado Blvd S when a red Mercedes struck their car.
A third vehicle, a black Jaguar, was also heavily damaged in the crash.
A thorough investigation determined Dickens was at fault for the crash. While speaking with Dickens, officers noticed multiple signs of impairment, including slurred speech and an odor of alcohol coming from his breath. Officers informed Dickens they were changing hats from a crash investigation to a criminal DUIinvestigation.
Dickens’ blood alcohol content was .335 when it was taken at a local hospital just after 4 AM.
During an inventory of Dickens’ red Mercedes, officers found two empty mini bottles of Smirnoff Vodka and 8 unopened mini bottles of Smirnoff Vodka.
Dickens caused an estimated $13,000 in damage to the gray Nissan and $11,000 in damage to the black Jaguar.
Based on the investigation, Dickens was cleared at the hospital and taken to the Lee County Jail on the following charges:
–1 count in violation of FSS 316.193(1)(a) – DUI influence of alcohol or drugs
–2 counts in violation of FSS 316.193(3)(c)(1)- Dui damage to property or person of another
