(June 17, 2024) — On Sunday, June 16, at around 11:08 PM, Officers with the Cape Coral Police Department responded to the 1900-block of SW 32nd Street, Cape Coral, Florida in reference to a report of an intoxicated driver.
The caller was an 8-year-old who said she was in her father’s car and he had been drinking. The child said her father parked the car at this location and is now sleeping.
Officers arrived to find the male driver, identified has Albert Coronado (DOB 01/07/1988), sleeping. The car was running and the child was crying in the back seat. Once Coronado was awake, officers asked him if the child called 911, to which Coronado said “yes,” and said he was drinking.
Officers noticed indicators of impairment, including glassy and bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, an odor of alcohol on his breath, and difficulty balancing.
Officers comforted the child and gave her teddy bears to bring home. The child was safely released to another family member.
Albert Coronado was arrested and charged with the following:
–1 count in violation of F.S.S. 316.193(1)(c), DUI – Breath Alcohol above .08
–1 count in violation of F.S.S. 316.193(4), Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol with a Minor in the Vehicle
