Results of May 10th Impaired Driving Operation

(May 11, 2024) – The Cape Coral Police Department conducted impaired driving enforcement (Operation “Stay on the Links & Off the Drinks on National Golf Day”) on May 10, 2024, targeting impaired driving. This operation was conducted citywide and resulted in fifty-six citations.

Traffic stop for speed (82 in a 50 MPH zone). Signs of impairment led to the discovery that Santana was impaired. Breath refused.

Traffic stop for a speed sign violation (60 in a 40 mph zone) led to the discovery that Benavides’ license was cancelled indefinitely since 2021 for failure to complete sanctions from a prior DUI. UCTR issued along with speed citation.

Traffic stop for driving the wrong way. Signs of impairment led to the discovery that Madrazo Martinez was impaired. BAC 0.133.

****The operation was paid for with FDOT sub-grant funding.  Cape Coral currently ranks 7th out of 38 agencies in Impaired Driving for traffic fatalities and serious injuries on the Highway Safety Matrix – Ranking of Florida. To improve traffic safety in the city, the Department has partnered with FDOT’s Traffic Safety Office to bring additional enforcement and education through the implementation of saturation patrols.
