(May 10, 2024) — On May 9, 2024, at approximately 6:09 PM, officers responded to a disturbance at 728 SW Pine Island Rd (Metro PCS) in Cape Coral, Florida. An employee called and stated a male entered the store and requested service while holding a large knife and screaming in the reporting party’s face with it.
Officers quickly located the male, later identified as James Brian King (DOB 4/22/1965), around the corner in the same plaza. He had a green 7” fixed blade kitchen knife on his person.
Two employees stated that Mr. King came into the store requesting service. They could not hear what Mr. King said and asked him to repeat himself. The employees stated that Mr. King quickly became agitated and slammed his phone on the counter. Employees asked him to leave, at which point Mr. King pulled out a knife within close proximity to the employees and got up in their faces while yelling profanities.
When Officers asked Mr. King why he had the knife, he stated he was bringing it to a friend’s house to help chop up a salad. Mr. King acknowledged that he grew frustrated and was looking on the counter for an envelope to reach a supervisor or any information on how to file a complaint. Mr. King said that he saw an envelope on the counter and grabbed his knife to look at the envelope. Officers asked Mr. King if the envelope was already open, to which he replied, “Yes, it was.” Officers asked him why he would need a knife to open an envelope that was already opened, but he could not give Officers a definitive response.
James King was arrested and taken to the Lee County Jail on the following charges:
–2 counts in violation of F.S.S. 784.021, Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill.

Arrested: James Brian King (DOB 4/22/1965, 4535 SE 14th Pl, Cape Coral)
