Woman Arrested for Reckless Driving with Children in Vehicle

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — On December 7, 2025, just before 11 AM, officers responded to a report of a reckless driver in the area of Del Prado Blvd N and Hancock Bridge Pkwy. The caller provided a Black Kia’s license plate number and reported that the vehicle was traveling northbound while speeding, tailgating, yelling, making obscene gestures toward other drivers, cutting dangerously between vehicles, and nearly causing multiple crashes.

An officer observed a black Kia traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on Del Prado Blvd N near NE Pine Island Rd. The Kia made a right turn from a straight lane, nearly striking a white vehicle that was stopped in the designated turn lane. The Kia then continued eastbound on NE Pine Island Rd at a high rate of speed, swerving through traffic and changing lanes without signaling. At the intersection of NE Pine Island Rd and Pondella Rd, the Kia passed several vehicles on the right, drove up and over a curb, and continued south on Pondella Rd.

The officer activated emergency lights and sirens and attempted to catch up to conduct a traffic stop. While doing so, the officer’s speed exceeded 60 mph in a posted 45 mph zone. The officer saw the Kia continue to switch lanes aggressively and strike another curb before turning west onto Pine Lake Dr. The Kia finally slowed at the intersection with Brynmar Dr, where the officer was able to initiate a stop.

The driver, identified as Jo’Kenya Harris (DOB 09/07/1993), was informed of the reason for the stop. Harris stated she had been driving “that way” to catch up to a man in a burgundy car who she claimed had thrown an object at her vehicle. At no time did the officer observe a vehicle or individual matching that description.

Harris had her husband and four children in the vehicle. Two of the children were found not to be properly restrained in seatbelts or in an approved child safety seat.

Based on the investigation, Jo’Kenya Harris (DOB 09/07/1993) was transported to the Lee County Jail on the following charge:
• 1 count of Reckless Driving

DCF was notified. Assisting officers installed a proper child car seat and ensured all passengers were safely restrained before releasing the vehicle to a licensed driver, who was also provided with seatbelt safety information.
