Driver Arrested Under Florida’s New Super Speeder Law

In the early morning hours of Thursday, July 17, 2025, a Cape Coral Police Department Traffic Officer arrested a driver for criminal speeding after he was caught driving more than 100 mph in a 50 mph zone.

At approximately 12:53 a.m., a CCPD Traffic Officer was conducting patrol along the 1900 block of Veterans Memorial Parkway E when he observed a Toyota Rav4 traveling at a high rate of speed. Using a radar device, the officer confirmed the vehicle was initially traveling at 80 mph in the posted 50 mph zone. As the officer attempted to catch up, the vehicle accelerated to 101 mph.

The officer conducted a traffic stop as soon as it was safe to do so. The driver, identified as Rood Kelly St Leger (DOB 04/02/2000), was detained without incident. When asked about the reason for his excessive speed, St Leger told officers it was because he was hungry.

Based on the investigation, St Leger was arrested and charged with Speeding in Excess of 100 MPH, a violation of Florida State Statute 316.1922(1b).
