(June 19, 2025) — On Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at approximately 3:27 p.m., an officer working for the Cape Coral Police Department conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Santa Barbara Blvd N and Tropicana Pkwy E in Cape Coral, Florida, for a vehicle failing to stop and yield the right-of-way.
Upon approaching the vehicle, a Toyota Camry, officers identified the driver and passenger. The driver was found to have a suspended license and was detained and later released at the scene. The passenger, identified as Dyllon J. Blanchard (DOB 07/15/1993), was found to have a possible out-of-state warrant from Georgia for Assault on a Police Officer with a vehicle, with information indicating violent tendencies.
With additional officers and a K9 unit on scene, Mr. Blanchard was detained. During the escort to a patrol vehicle, Mr. Blanchard attempted to pull away and flee but was unsuccessful.
A K9 sniff of the vehicle resulted in an alert for narcotics. A subsequent search revealed a glass bowl with white powder residue, which field-tested positive for fentanyl, and a locked bag at the passenger’s feet. Mr. Blanchard was found to be the owner of the bag and its contents, which included a silver handgun, ammunition, and a small amount of marijuana. The firearm was confirmed to be a .22 caliber MP25, and Mr. Blanchard admitted to being a convicted felon.
Mr. Blanchard was arrested and transported to the Lee County Jail on the following charges:
–1 count in violation of F.S.S. 790.23 (1a), Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon (2nd Degree Felony)
–1 count in violation of F.S.S. 790.01 (3), Carrying a Concealed Weapon (3rd Degree Felony)
–1 count in violation of F.S.S. 893.147 (1), Possession of Paraphernalia (1st Degree Misdemeanor)
–1 count in violation of F.S.S. 843.02, Resisting Officer Without Violence (1st Degree Misdemeanor
–1 count in violation of F.S.S. 941.02, Out of State Warrant
