(June 13, 2025) — The Cape Coral Police Department has arrested a juvenile suspect in connection with the theft and burglary of a motor vehicle that occurred on February 2, 2025, near SW 8th Place in Cape Coral, Florida.
On February 2, 2025, at approximately 11:00 a.m., a report was taken for a stolen Kia Optima. The victim stated the vehicle was stolen from her driveway between 8:35 a.m. and 8:52 a.m., as captured by Ring doorbell cameras. The vehicle was locked, with no keys left inside.
A canvass of the neighborhood revealed no witnesses or additional surveillance footage.
On February 5, 2025, officers located the stolen Kia Optima abandoned at 24 NW 7th Street. Forensic experts processed the vehicle, collecting latent prints for analysis. Notably, the words “Kia Boys” were written in lip gloss on the inside of the car’s windows.
Subsequent forensic analysis identified latent prints belonging to Kamari L. Thornton (DOB 11/12/2009). Kamari was never given permission to access the vehicle.
On June 12, 2025, detectives located and arrested Kamari Thornton at his residence and taken to the Lee County Jail on the following charges:
–1 count in violation of F.S.S. 812.014 (2)(c)(6), Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Third Degree Felony
–1 count in violation of F.S.S. 810.02 (4)(b), Burglary of an Unoccupied Conveyance, Third Degree Felony
