Cape Coral Police Arrest Suspect in Lego Theft Scheme

The Cape Coral Police Department arrested Tyler Dean Lovering (DOB: 05/08/1993) in connection with a retail theft investigation involving high-value Lego sets stolen from Walmart at 1619 Del Prado Boulevard South.

Property Crimes Detectives adopted the case and determined that from February through April 2026, Lovering repeatedly used barcodes for lower-priced items to purchase more expensive Lego sets at reduced prices. The stolen sets ranged from $23.97 to $261.97, while the barcodes used during the transactions scanned between $4.00 and $4.97. The sets included themes such as “Frozen,” “Harry Potter,” and “Star Wars.”

The scheme occurred more than 12 times and caused a total loss of $1,354.61. Detectives determined the stolen Lego sets were being kept at Lovering’s residence and in a storage unit. Following a search warrant, detectives recovered an array of stolen Lego sets. While searching Lovering post-arrest, detectives recovered barcodes from his wallet.

Tyler Lovering was transported to the Lee County Jail on the following charges:

–1 count in violation of Grand Theft, F.S.S. 812.014 (2c1)
