STREET RACING ARRESTS – NICHOLAS PKWY / COUNTRY CLUB BLVD

On May 5, 2026, at approximately 11:20 p.m., a Cape Coral Police officer conducting roving speed enforcement on Nicholas Parkway West observed four vehicles traveling at a higher than normal rate of speed. Using radar, the officer confirmed a reading of 68 mph in a 35 mph zone. The vehicles, identified as two Ford Mustangs (one white, one black), a silver Infiniti G35, and a dark-colored pickup truck, were seen revving their engines at a red light before rapidly accelerating along Nicholas Parkway. Further observing the vehicles, the officer ultimately determined speeds of up to 90 miles per hour.

A short time later, the group stopped for another red light near the intersection of Nicholas Parkway and Country Club Boulevard, where the white Mustang and the Infiniti made U-turns and continued driving recklessly in the area. The officer conducted a traffic stop on the silver Infiniti at 701 Nicholas Parkway East and contacted the driver,  Joaquin Sierra Jr. (DOB 09/24/1990), as sole occupant of the vehicle. The driver questioned why he had to exit, was advised he was being detained for racing, and refused multiple commands to get out of the vehicle. When the officer opened the driver’s door and attempted to guide him out, the driver tensed up and pulled away before being removed and placed in handcuffs.

Based on the investigation, Joaquin Sierra Jr. was arrested and charged with:

  • Racing on Highway – F.S.S. 316.191(2)(a)
  • Dangerous Excessive Speeding (50+ mph over the posted limit) – F.S.S. 316.1922
  • Resisting an Officer Without Violence – F.S.S. 843.02

During the same incident, at approximately 11:29 p.m., a Cape Coral Police sergeant in the area located the involved white Mustang near Country Club Boulevard and conducted a traffic stop in the 900 block of Country Club Boulevard on a white Ford Mustang. The driver acknowledged he was speeding with other vehicles.

Based on the totality of the investigation, probable cause was developed to arrest the driver for:

  • Racing on Highway – F.S.S. 316.191(2)
  • Operating a Vehicle 50+ mph in a Manner Threatening Persons or Property – F.S.S. 316.1922(1)(a)

Both parties transported to the Lee County Jail.

The Cape Coral Police Department will continue strict enforcement against street racing and extreme speeding to protect the safety of our community’s roadways.
