Man Arrested for Stealing $32,000 in Jewelry During Vehicle Burglary

(August 28, 2025) — On Saturday, August 16, 2025, at approximately 11:42 a.m., officers with the Cape Coral Police Department responded to the RaceTrac gas station at 3010 NE Pine Island Road in reference to a vehicle burglary.

The victim told officers that while inside the gas station, he left his black Mercedes-Benz unlocked with a Coach jewelry box in plain view on the passenger seat. An estimated $32,000 worth of jewelry and watches were inside the jewelry box. The victim’s iPhone 15 Pro Max, valued at $1,200, was also in the vehicle. When he returned, the items were gone.

Officers reviewed surveillance footage provided by the Race Trac Store Manager. The video showed the following:

  • 11:06 a.m. – A Hispanic male in his 20s or 30s with black hair, wearing a black shirt, brown shorts, and white shoes, pulled into a handicap space next to the victim’s car. The suspect looked directly into the victim’s vehicle.
  • 11:07 a.m. – The suspect committed the burglary and left within 30 seconds in a dark gray four-door sedan with a missing rear driver’s side hubcap. The vehicle also appeared to have front-end damage on the passenger side.

Photos and fingerprints were collected from the vehicle and submitted to Forensics.

A Property Crimes Unit Detective took over the investigation and identified the registered owner of the suspect vehicle as Carlos Jimenez Delgado (DOB 02/26/2003). Delgado’s driver’s license photo closely matched the suspect in the video.

Detectives went to Delgado’s home at 313 NE 26th Street, where the suspect’s vehicle was found in the driveway. When contacted, Delgado initially denied involvement but later admitted to taking items from the victim’s vehicle. He even said to the detective “D***, you get caught doing everything around here.”

Based on the investigation, Carlos Jimenez Delgado (DOB 02/26/2003) was taken to the Lee County Jail on the following charges:

–1 count of Burglary of Unoccupied Conveyance (Unarmed), a Third Degree Felony

–1 count of Grand Theft – $20,000 or More, Less than $100,000, a Second Degree Felony

During a search of the home, detectives found several pieces of the jewelry that were reported stolen in a jean jacket in the suspect’s closet. Inside of the jacket where the jewelry was found, over $7,000 in cash was also located.
