Driver Arrested for DUI after Crashing into Canal

Cape Coral, FL (August 14, 2025) — On Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at approximately 7:43 PM, Cape Coral Police officers responded to the area of 2209 SW 2nd Terrace, Cape Coral, Florida, regarding a vehicle in the canal. The vehicle had struck an LCEC utility pole, causing approximately $2,000 in damage, before entering the water.

Three Cape Coral Police officers entered the canal along with Cape Coral Fire Department personnel to extricate the driver, who was the sole occupant. The driver was identified as Izabella Montero (DOB 12-13-1995). Officers observed that Montero had bloodshot, glossy eyes, slurred speech, was unable to answer questions, and had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her breath.

Cape Coral Firefighters and Lee County EMS provided medical assistance, and Montero was transported to Cape Coral Hospital for evaluation.

Following the crash investigation, Montero was determined to be at fault. Officers responded to the hospital and advised her she was under investigation for DUI. Based on the findings, she was placed under arrest.

Montero was released from the hospital and transported to the Lee County Jail on the following charges:

1 count – DUI Property Damage (F.S.S. 316.193(3)(c)(1)) –

1 count – Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs (F.S.S. 316.193(1)(a))
