Aggravated Battery Suspect Arrested After Standoff

(June 2, 2025) — On Friday, May 30, 2025, just after 8 PM, officers with the Cape Coral Police Department responded to a home in SW Cape Coral regarding a disturbance.

Officers arrived on scene and spoke with the reporting party, who indicated they had been physically battered and cut with a knife. There was a visible injury to the caller. Officers attempted to make contact with the suspect, identified as Robert A. Poit (DOB 10/23/1966), who refused to come out of the residence. The reporting party was taken away from the area, the scene was secured, and officers continued to contact Poit, who refused to leave.

The reporting party, who is the sole owner of the house, gave officers permission to enter and search. A SWAT Team entered through the open garage door and made contact with Poit in one of the bedrooms. Poit continued to ignore officers commands. He then advanced toward officers, so A K9 Officer utilized his dog to gain compliance. Poit was then taken into custody and transported to the hospital for medical clearance.

While in the hospital, Poit threatened an officer. He specifically said, “I’ll walk right to the Cape Coral Police Department, and when you come out, I’ll put a bullet in your face myself.” He repeated the threat multiple times.

Poit was medically cleared and taken to the Lee County Jail on the following charges:

–1 count of Aggravated Battery with a Weapon, a Felony of the Second Degree

–1 count of Battery, a Misdemeanor of the First Degree

–1 count of Resisting Officers with Violence, a Misdemeanor of the First Degree

–1 count of Threat of Harm to a Public Servant, a Felony of the Second Degree
