Two Arrested for Vehicular Homicide in July 2024 Crash

(May 29, 2025) — Two people are facing Vehicular Homicide charges in connection to a crash that happened on July 19, 2024 on NE Pine Island Rd.

On July 19, 2024, at around 1:40 AM, officers with the Cape Coral Police Department responded to a traffic crash with injuries at the 900-block of NE Pine Island Rd, Cape Coral, Florida. The crash involved three vehicles with one driver in each. Two of the drivers survived with no apparent injuries and the third driver was declared deceased a short time after being transported to Cape Coral Hospital.

The investigation into the crash revealed that immediately before the collision, two vehicles were recorded on camera at Pine Island Rd & Nicholas Pkwy, and then again east of this location, traveling along with each other at high rates of speed, appearing to be engaged in a street race. The vehicle belonging to the victim did not appear on any of the video recordings. The investigation also revealed that the two other vehicles were traveling at a high rate of speed (125-129 mph) when they crashed into each other and the victim’s vehicle, which was traveling at a considerably lower rate of speed.

DNA and other investigatory tactics led to the confirmation of the identity of the drivers: Anastasiya Zadorozhna (DOB 04/11/1997) and Chase Magruder (DOB 01/09/2003).

Due to the reckless manner in which the drivers operated their vehicles that resulted in a crash that caused the death of another person, Traffic Homicide Investigators developed probable cause to charge both drivers with Vehicular Homicide, a Felony of the Second Degree.

After the State Attorney’s Office approved and issued arrest warrants for both drivers on May 12, 2025, Zadorozhna voluntarily surrendered at the Lee County Jail on May 13, 2025 at 10:30 PM. Magruder was detained by U.S. Marshals today in the Susquehanna Township in Pennsylvania.

It should be noted that on the night of the crash, a DUI investigation revealed that Magruder was driving under the influence. He was taken to the Lee County Jail on one count of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs. The in-depth investigation into the crash later revealed Magruder’s culpability in the victim’s death, and laboratory confirmation of DNA evidence confirmed he was the driver of one of the at fault vehicles.
