(February 28, 2025) — The City of Cape Coral is implementing speed cameras in school zones to enhance safety. The RedSpeed program will go live on March 1, 2025. During the 30-day warning period, you’ll receive a warning notice by mail if you’re caught speeding.
Starting March 31, 2025, we will begin issuing citations. If you exceed the speed limit by MORE THAN 10 MPH, the registered owner will receive a Notice of Violation with a fine of $100 approximately 3 days after the violation occurred. For example, if you’re driving 31 MPH in a 20 MPH school zone, you will be cited.
Each violation will be recorded by the RedSpeed camera system. Before any citation is issued, a law enforcement officer or traffic infraction enforcement officer will carefully review the violation.
What Happens If You Receive a Violation Notice?
You have three options to respond:
1. Pay the violation
2. Submit an affidavit explaining an exception to liability under Florida State Statute 316.1896(8)
3. Request a hearing
