Local Woman Arrested for Trafficking Morphine

(July 11, 2024) — Detectives observed a car commit a traffic infraction at the intersection of Chiquita and Tropicana. Based on this, a detective initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. The driver, identified as Janina DeAndrea Coleman (DOB 09/25/1992), was the sole occupant. A K-9 officer responded to the traffic stop with his dog and conducted an open-air sniff of the vehicle, which yielded a positive alert.

A search of the vehicle revealed two unmarked pill bottles containing multiple pills located inside Coleman’s purse. The pills were identified as morphine pills, and they were not prescribed to Coleman.

The investigation revealed that Coleman intended to both use and sell the pills. Fourteen grams of morphine was found, which meets the threshold for trafficking amounts. Trace amounts of cocaine and a scale were also found in her vehicle.

Janina DeAndrea Coleman was taken to the Lee County Jail and charged with the following:

–1 count in violation of F.S.S. 893.135 (1c1) – Trafficking Opium, 1st Degree Felony

–1 count in violation of F.S.S. 893.147 (1) Possession of drug paraphernalia

Arrested: Janina DeAndrea Coleman (DOB 09/25/1992, 1719 NW 143th Terrace, Cape Coral)
