(June 3, 2024) — On Sunday, June 2nd, 2024, at approximately 7:56 PM, Officers working for the Cape Coral Police Department were dispatched to a home in the 1400 block of SW 4th Ct, Cape Coral, Florida in reference to a shooting. Officers arrived to find a female with serious gunshot injuries and a deceased male. Officers applied life-saving measures to the female victim, who was transported to the hospital.
The male has been identified as Joseph William Johnson (DOB 04/07/1936). Our preliminary investigation has revealed Johnson used a handgun to shoot the victim before using the gun on himself. He died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A suicide note he left behind talked about Johnson and the victim ending their lives together.
This is an ongoing and active investigation. The victim is still in the hospital with serious injuries. Any additional information will be released as it becomes available.
