Three Juveniles Arrested in Grand Theft Auto Investigation

On May 7, 2024, around 7:30 AM, Officers working for the Cape Coral Police Department responded to the 700 Block of NW 18th Place, Cape Coral, Florida, for reports of a Motor Vehicle Theft.

The reporting party/registered owner of the vehicle had Ring camera footage documenting the following: On May 6, 2024, at approximately 10:40 PM, the registered owner’s car, a 2022 silver Kia, was stolen from her driveway by unknown subjects. On her Ring video, she could see the headlights as the vehicle was being backed down her driveway. She called the police as soon as she saw the Ring camera footage.

The same morning, Officers located a Red Ford Mustang convertible and found keys were in the ignition, the passenger door was halfway open, and there was damage on the vehicle from mailboxes that were hit nearby. Officers found the car was registered with the residence, and the homeowner acknowledged leaving their keys in the car. A second vehicle in the driveway was also left unlocked. A Michael Kors backpack with over $1500 worth of contents was taken from inside the car.

There were multiple documented cases from other homes in the area where unlocked vehicles were entered and ransacked. A silver/gray SUV was consistent in all reported cases.

On May 8, 2024, Detectives responded to the 1500 Block of NW 8th Terrace in Cape Coral for a recovered stolen vehicle.  The registered owner of the car responded and said that many items found in the vehicle were not hers, including a Michael Kors backpack.

A School Resource Officer for the Cape Coral Police Department was approached by a juvenile who acknowledged he had stolen a car with his friends on May 6, 2024. Other students showed the School Resource Officer Instagram videos of juvenile suspects breaking into cars and stealing them. The Instagram videos were posted by the suspects who were filming inside the stolen silver Kia.

Juvenile suspects were later identified as Elijah M. Bowman (DOB 6/20/2010), Cesar Pena Jr. (DOB 9/30/2009), and Hunter B. Volovlek (DOB 6/18/2010). The investigation revealed probable cause to arrest all three juveniles.
