(May 13, 2024) — The Cape Coral Police Department conducted a traffic saturation (“Operation Phone in one Hand, Ticket in the Other”) on May 13, 2024 specifically targeting distracted driving. This operation was conducted citywide and resulted in thirty-two citations.

A traffic stop for a speed violation (67 in a 35 mph zone) led to the discovery that Brea\’s license was expired for more than 6 months. Brea also attached an unassigned tag to obscure the fact that he had not registered his vehicle after recently purchasing it. UCTRs issued along with speed citation.
***The operation was paid for with FDOT sub-grant funding. Cape Coral currently ranks 4th out of 38 agencies in Distracted Driving for traffic fatalities and serious injuries on the Highway Safety Matrix – Ranking of Florida. To improve traffic safety in the City, the Department has partnered with FDOT’s Traffic Safety Office to bring additional enforcement and education through the implementation of saturation patrols.
