Burglary Results in Police K-9 Bite and Arrest

(April 8, 2024) — On April 5, 2024, at approximately 10:50 PM, a white male suspect entered a pickup truck parked in front of an apartment on the 3700 Block of SE 10th Avenue in Cape Coral, Florida. The suspect, later identified as Nathan Jim Fickle (DOB 03/03/1993, 808 Miramar St #30, Cape Coral), ransacked items in the truck and left a shirt and a pair of sunglasses inside the victim\’s pickup truck. The suspect then proceeded to illegally enter the victim’s apartment.

The victim was woken up by loud sounds coming from the front entryway of his apartment.  He investigated these sounds and confronted Nathan Fickle who had entered his home through his unlocked front door.  Nathan Fickle pushed him during the confrontation. The victim and Nathan Fickle then went outside.  The victim became aware that his electric tricycle had been forcefully removed from where it had been locked-up.

Nathan Fickle began pushing the tricycle away from the apartment. The victim tried to prevent Nathan Fickle from leaving and stealing his bike but was unable to do so. Nathan Fickle left the scene on the bicycle.

While officers were searching for the suspect in the neighborhood, officers received a 911 call of a separate homeowner indicating the suspect was attempting to break into his back lanai door before fleeing the area onto a local golf course.

The Cape Coral Police Department’s K-9 Unit responded to the scene and began tracking the suspect. As officers approached the suspect to make an arrest, Nathan Fickle once again fled from them, jumped in a canal, and swam across to the other side in a continued attempt to escape their efforts to arrest him.  The track continued and successfully located Nathan Fickle hiding on the golf course. He failed to comply with lawful orders to surrender and come out bushes that he\’d hidden in to avoid capture.  After being bitten by a police K-9, he was taken into custody.

The suspect was identified as Nathan Jim Fickle (DOB 03/03/1993, 808 Miramar St #30, Cape Coral).  Nathan was identified as the suspect. Nathan Fickle acknowledged that he entered the victim’s apartment, pushed the victim, stole the victim’s tricycle, and ran from the police.

Nathan Fickle was arrested and charged with the following:

–1 count in violation of Florida State Statute 810.02(2)(a), Burglary of an Occupied Swelling with Battery, a Felony of the First Degree.

–1 count in violation of Florida State Statute 812.014(2)(c)1, Grand Theft, a Felony of the Third Degree.

–1 count in violation of Florida State Statute 812.131(2)(b), Robbery by Sudden Snatching, a Felony of the Third Degree.

–1 count in violation of Florida State Statute 810.02(4)(b), Burglary of an Unoccupied Conveyance, a Felony of the Third Degree.

–1 count in violation of Florida State Statute 843.02, Resisting Officer Without Violence to His or Her Person, a Misdemeanor of the First Degree.
